Leadership Development

Leadership saves lives!
Over three thousand local NHS staff are currently engaged in developing their leadership skills. It is our firm belief that enhanced leadership at all levels and within all organisations, will improve the health services delivered to patients and the public throughout the NHS South Central region. Increasingly patients’ experience is informing the type of leaders we are developing for the future. We are setting up a unique research arm to test the sort of leadership which has the greatest benefit to patients – firmly in the belief that good leadership saves lives.
This webpage provides staff working within the NHS South Central region information about what the SHA Leadership Team is able to offer. If you are a member of staff and want to find out more, please contact your local Leadership Development Manager or Training Department.
As well as Leadership Development, our team also embraces Medical Directors, Organisational Development, Equality and Diversity and HR Best Practice. We produce a regular newsletter which gives an update on developments, and you can view the latest version of this by clicking here.

Leadership for a purpose
Leadership is about delivering results through staff engagement and, in the NHS, it is essential to achieve improved services for patients.
In pursuit of excellence, we believe that the most effective and valuable leadership development is tailored to support individuals and teams to achieve their specific goals. This, we call ‘leadership for a purpose’. Through inter-organisational, cross-portfolio working and listening to feedback, it forms a growing part of a range of leadership development opportunities, available for team leaders and members, operational leaders and strategic leaders.
Talent management is key to our work and much of these development activities depend on a range of trained NHS staff who act as our faculty.
Leadership Development Programmes
Our range of leadership programmes are listed and summarised in the Leadership Development Mapping and Programmes document below.
