NHS 2012 Challenge

Inspired by the 2012 Games, the challenge to the NHS is to encourage each of the original 152 PCT communities to use the inspirational power of the 2012 Olympics to get 2,012 NHS employees actively engaged in sport or physical activity as part of, or associated with, their NHS employment, by the time the Olympics arrive in 2012. This would equate to around 25 to 30 per cent of the NHS work force becoming more active www.sportandphysicalactivity.nhs.uk
Dr Boorman’s NHS staff health and well-being report set all NHS staff an ‘activity challenge’ to encourage us to get involved in physical activity, making ourselves fitter and a better role model to patients. www.nhshealthandwellbeing.org

We are encouraging all NHS organisations in South Central to take up the Walk4Life Mile Project. This national project aims to identify, map and waymark 2,012 one mile long routes by 2012. These could include walks around your hospital, clinic or NHS office locality. The routes can be promoted on an interactive website, where people can find routes, upload new routes, and record their fitness and miles walked www.walk4life.info
Any NHS organisation or group can sign up to be a supporter at Walk4Life. Supporter organisations can:
- create Walk4Life Miles or other Walks
- make a note about a walk that stays visible at all times
- use the tick boxes to say if a route is flat, barrier free, etc
- add links back to their own website
- add events such as daily or weekly group walks
If you would like to join as an NHS Supporter Organisation please see www.walk4life.info/about-walk4life/supporting-project
